October Newsletter

Picture Day
Picture day is scheduled for Thursday, October 24. Students are not required to wear their uniforms that day, but clothing must reflect the standards of the school.

Kindergarten students do not usually have school on Thursday, but we are planning to have kindergarten on Thursday, October 24. We will not have class for them on Friday, October 25.

Enclosed is an order form from the photographer. Fill out a separate form for each child, along with the payment. If you have more than one child, please do not combine payments. Each order envelope should contain payment for the given child.

The photographer will need the order form and payment on picture day, so please make sure your child brings this in to school on or before October 24.

Vacation Policy
We are asking for your help in what has become a small problem here at FCS.  A few families a year are taking a week for vacation during the school term.  We think vacation is a good thing, but it does present some extra challenges to our staff.  We are asking you to consider taking your vacation over the summer.  We realize, in some cases, that is not possible.  What is frequently occurring - especially in high school – is that the students return and are unable to properly catch up in their work. To remedy the situation, the administration is asking the teachers to tutor the students after school for an hour or two each night until they are caught up.  This should only have to be done for high school math, science, and other select subjects.  A $25 per hour charge will be added to the next billing.  This will help us fairly reimburse the teachers for their after-school work.  Thanks for your cooperation in this important matter.  If you have any questions, feel free to call Mr. Marcus.

FCS Breakfast
An all-you-can-eat fundraiser breakfast is planned for Saturday, October 26, from 6:00-10:30 at the school. Costs are covered by your donations. Invite your relatives, friends, and neighbors for a delicious, fun way to start your Saturday.

Parent-Teacher Fellowship
We look forward to meeting all the parents at our parent-teacher fellowship on Monday, October 7, at 7:30 pm. This event will take place on the third floor at school.

Volleyball Tournament
The tournament will be held November 1 and 2 in the FCS gym. Come and cheer on the Lady Fairview Falcons. It should be an exciting day of volleyball competition.

School Weather Cancellations
As winter weather draws near, we would like to remind you of several ways you can find out if there is a delayed opening, early closing, or school cancellation. Tune in to radio stations WDAC (94.5 FM) or WEEU (830 AM). You may also want to go to wfmz.com and click on the school closings link. If we have a cancellation, we will send out a One Call Now message around 6:00 am.

September Newsletter

Communication Envelopes
At the end of each month, your newsletters, calendars, statements, and other parent correspondences will be placed in this yellow envelope and sent home with the oldest student in your family.

Please read the contents, sign and date the envelope, and return it to the office by the due date on your statement or as soon as possible. Keep the information that is inside. Your signature tells us you have the information. Feel free to use the envelope to make payments or other communications when returning to the office.

Sometimes you will receive forms in these envelopes that we want returned to the office. Please send these forms back to school no later than the given due date.

If we do not receive your envelope to reuse the next month, you will be charged $1 for a new one.

Achievement Tests
Enclosed you will find the 2012-2013 Stanford Achievement Test Results for your children.

Health Room Emergency Cards
Enclosed you will find information from the Reading School District Health Department. Please fill out a form for each child and return to the office as soon as possible.

Excuse Cards
There are a few excuse cards per student enclosed to be used when your child is absent. Each student needs to bring a separate card. If a student is absent two or more consecutive days, you may put all the dates on one card.

Please be informed that all absences will be considered unexcused unless you send an excuse card.

Volleyball Games
We are looking forward to another good volleyball season. We would like to remind the parents that we are not responsible to babysit your children during this time. Please do not leave your children here unless there is an older sibling to watch them. Children may not play in the school before or during the games.

There are several away games. We ask that each student participating brings a dollar to help with fuel cost.  The school staff is not responsible for younger children who go along with their older siblings.

Box Tops
We will again be collecting Box Tops, Campbell’s Soup Labels, and ink cartridges this year. We have been very thankful for the benefits of them in the past years.

Ladies’ Prayer Time
Beginning Wednesday, September 4, all the mothers are invited to come together for a time of prayer at school in the conference room. This will be held regularly on the first Wednesday of the month from 8:15-9:00. We believe prayer does make a difference in the lives of our children and staff. Come and be blessed as you bless others with your prayers.

According to the regulations of the State of Pennsylvania, we cannot hand out any medications from the office. If your child is sick or not feeling well and needs a pain reliever of some form, they should come to the office. We will then contact the parent.

If your child is taking a prescription medication, that medicine, along with a doctor’s order, must be kept in the office. The nurse will come to administer it at the scheduled time.

If you have any questions, please contact the office.

Staff Feature
Diana Bara-popa is our newest staff member. She is a recent graduate from FCS, and we are happy to have her return as a monitor.

Besides her full-time job here at school, Diana works at Papa John’s Pizza in the evenings. When she isn’t working, she enjoys drawing, painting, or helping around the house.

Diana is helping Miss Witmer in LC2. She says, “Most of all, I enjoy interacting with the children.”

Diana, we’re glad to have you on staff this year. Your energy and help in the classroom and on the playground are a blessing to those around you.
